Watertown Daily Times | Malone finishes second in Canton wrestling tournament

CANTON – The Malone wrestling team took three out of four matches to place second in the Northern New York Wrestling Officials Association Holiday Duals tournament Saturday at Canton.

Kyle Wood (220 pounds) was named the most outstanding wrestler for the Huskies (9-2). Northern Adirondack (4-0) won the team title, Attica/Batavia (2-2) took third, Beaver River (1-3) was fourth and Canton (0-4) finished in fifth.

Also receiving MOW awards were: Keenan Lebeouf-Davis of Canton, Travis Kaufman of Batavia, Josh Greenwood of Beaver River and Dolan Gilmore of the NAC

The field was reduced to five teams after the inclement weather prevented teams from making the trip.

In Round 1 Beaver River downed Canton 54-24 and NAC trimmed Batavia 39-37.

In Round 2 Batavia shaded Canton 43-42 and Malone dropped Beaver River 45-30.

In Round 3 NAC defeated Canton 61-24 and Malone edged Batavia 39-38.

In Round 4 NAC outscored Malone 43-35 and Batavia downed Beaver River 50-29.

In Round 5 NAC edged Beaver River 43-42 and Malone dropped Canton 42-30.



Denny Kang totaled a goal and two assists as the Little Red rallied past the Red Raiders in a nonleague game at Lynah Rink in Ithaca.

Sam Roach tallied a goal and an assist, and William Gephert stopped 27 shots for Ithaca.

Devon Jolly paced Massena (1-3) with a goal and an assist.



Rylee Preston delivered one goal and one assist as Saranac/Lake Placid blanked Malone in a Northern Athletic Conference game at Malone.

Whitney Battistoni collected 17 saves for Saranac/Lake Placid (4-3, 1-0).

Michelle White registered 24 saves for Malone (3-5-2, 1-1-1).
