Tustin tops Beckman, 23-8; while Foothill loses to Brea Olinda, 19-15 – Orange County Register

Tustin’s football team wrapped up non-league play with a 23-8 victory over Beckman on Friday, Sept. 22, at Tustin.

Also on Friday, Foothill fell to 0-4, losing to Brea Olinda, 19-15, at Brea Olinda.

In the Tustin-Beckman game, running back KC Carr led the Tillers with 34 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tillers Anthony Herbas blocked a punt that rolled out the back of the end zone for a safety to start the scoring for Tustin.

The Tillers also got a strong effort from Larry Harris, who intercepted a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown.

“I thought the Beckman coaches had a great plan defensively against us and I was really impressed with how hard their kids played,” said Tustin Coach Myron Miller.

Tustin has a bye this week before opening Empire League play on Friday, Oct. 6, at Western.

“Even though we came up short against a very good Tustin team, it was an exciting game in which our guys showed a lot of toughness and character,” said Beckman coach Marcello Giuliano.

“We were down by only one point at the start of the fourth quarter, and we had an opportunity for a potentially game tying score with a few minutes left in the game.  Our defense held Tustin’s potent offense to only two scores (21 points under their season average) and stiffened up on a few crucial fourth down and goal line situations, so it was another terrific performance by that side of the ball.  We need to keep working hard to get the offensive unit untracked; we are improving but we need to speed up that process.”

The Patriots were led by senior defensive lineman Harvey Herrera who Giuliano said, “did a great job vs. Tustin’s interior linemen.  Junior wide receiverJacob Kissling had a great game blocking and receiving. “Sophomore Hector Hernandez made important tackles in the kicking game.”

The Patriots host Westminster Saturday, Sept 30, at 7 p.m. at Tustin High.
