Orange County flipper and real estate agent Tarek El Moussa is propelling his TV fame into a new project aimed at giving a “Pick Me Up” to people struggling with assorted problems.
El Moussa, of the hit HGTV show “Flip or Flop,” has been promoting the show on social media. It debuts on Facebook and YouTube on Monday, Jan. 1 at noon PST.
In one of several recent Instagram posts, he wrote, “This past Thanksgiving, I announced my Pick Me Up project on Facebook because what a better time to give back than during the holidays! We received over 4,000 nominations for those that needed a ‘Pick Me Up.’ We are going to be making announcements soon, so you never know…. in the next few weeks I might be knockin’ on your door!”
Some additional posts:
El Moussa, who survived cancer twice, is in the midst of a divorce with his wife, “Flip or Flop” co-star Christina El Moussa.
The pair also made headlines in 2016 when flipping classes featuring the El Moussas run by Zurixx LLC, an education company based in Utah, came under fire. About a dozen people interviewed by The Associated Press said while class leaders offered some instruction, a lot of time was spent pushing them to buy more classes and the couple wasn’t there.
Despite the pending divorce, the El Moussas continue to film “Flip or Flop” and improve and sell fixer-uppers together. Last year, Tarek El Moussa also joined HOM Sotheby’s International Realty in Newport Beach, which focuses on high-end homes.
In a recent video about the upcoming YouTube project, Tarek stated, “It doesn’t matter the struggle, it could be a failing business, a bad breakup, mental health, physical health or even just a lousy few months. We’re going to reach out to them and find the absolute best way to put a smile on their face.”
It wasn’t clear how he would do that.
