Casa brings back Yoder Family Sundays for 2018
Free programs on the first Sunday of the month at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens will continue in 2018, thanks to the generosity of San Clemente’s Yoder family.
The cultural center announced the programs, which began a year ago for the year 2017, will start with Jan. 7, when guests can take a self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. of the elegant one-time home of San Clemente founder Ole Hanson. At noon visitors can attend a free concert featuring pianist Vijay Venkatesh, a winner of the Seattle Symphony International Piano Competition, the Classics Alive Artists’ Competition and the Frances Walton Chamber Music Competition.
The concert is underwritten by Ron and Margaret Redmond, longtime Casa supporters, the monthly first-Sunday events by June Yoder.

City Council won’t meet Jan. 2
The City Council voted earlier this year to skip its scheduled Jan. 2 meeting, coming the day after the New Year’s Day holiday.
It isn’t just because it’s after the holiday – it’s also because city offices are closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 1, a period when the council agenda and agenda reports would be prepared and published.
The council’s first regular meeting of 2018 will be Jan. 16 at City Hall.
Check out some gardens of the Middle East
San Clemente Garden Club members Tanya Johnson and Suzi Klickstein recently visited gardens in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including Dubai’s Miracle Gardens, recognized as the world’s largest vertical garden
They will share highlights of their trip at 2 p.m. during the Jan. 3 meeting of the garden club at St. Andrews Methodist Church, 2001 Calle Frontera in San Clemente. The public is invited.
The club’s business meeting starts at 1 p.m.
