Some quick-thinking students and their teachers helped police stop a pair of suspects breaking into a southwest Oklahoma City home.
May 10 started out like a typical day in class at Stand Watie Elementary School. Then, students and teachers looked out the window and saw a burglary in progress at a home near Southwest 34th Street and South Linn Avenue.
“I am at Stand Watie Elementary School, and there are three kids breaking into a house,” one of the teachers told an Oklahoma City police dispatch officer. There’s a license tag for the truck. Get the license tag for that truck. They kicked the windows in.”
Students including Laniya Walker were yelling out descriptions of the suspects.
“We saw a car pull up, a black truck, and people got out the car and peeked in the windows,” Walker said.
Dispatchers said the children’s quick response and descriptions were essential in catching the crooks.
