Manchester United’s tour of the US got off to a winning start on Saturday night as they beat LA Galaxy 5-2.
Our man David McDonnell is stateside following Jose Mourinho and his squad. Here is his tour diary…
POGBA’S RING OF STEEL
Manchester United have their own security team to look after Jose Mourinho and his players while they are in the US, to afford them protection wherever they go.
But the security element around record £89million signing Paul Pogba was a little extreme as he left the StubHub Center on Saturday night following United’s 5-2 win over LA Galaxy.
Pogba was surrounded by five security guards, who made a circle around him, as he made his way through the media mixed zone and past fans who were desperate for an autograph and a selfie.
He may be United’s most expensive signing, but the level of protection around him did seem way over the top.
THE STARS CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF UNITED
United have already had visits to their UCLA campus from the likes of Hollwood A-listers Julia Roberts and Gary Oldman, and the celebs keep on coming for Mourinho and his men.
Former Beatle Ringo Starr was spotted at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, where United are basing themselves for the first four games of their US tour, while singer Bruno Mars also popped in to the high-end hotel just off LA’s iconic Rodeo Drive.
Former Wales rugby union star Gareth Thomas was also spotted at the StubHub Center on Saturday having watched United’s victory.
BECKHAM STILL THE MAIN MAN
The biggest cheer of the night at the StubHub Center came when the giant video screens at the stadium showed David Beckham watching from the crowd.
The former England captain was in attendance with some of his children to watch two of his former clubs, and waved when he noticed he was on the big screen.
