Orange will play Saturday at El Modena – Orange County Register

El Modena and Orange use Fred Kelly Stadium at the El Modena High campus as their home football stadium.

Both teams have CIF-Southern Section semifinal playoff home games this week. The solution: El Modena will play there on Friday, Nov. 24, against St. Margaret’s in Division 7; Orange will play there Saturday, Nov. 25, against Santa Clara of Oxnard in Division 13.

All CIF-SS semifinal playoff games were originally scheduled for Friday, with the opportunity for change should arise a conflict like El Modena-Orange. Orange got Santa Clara to agree to the date change that also required approval from the CIF-SS office.

Games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., but that can be changed, too, if both teams agree to the change and it is approved by the CIF-SS office. The St. Margaret’s-El Modena, Santa Clara-Orange and a few other games will start at 7 p.m.

Sometimes a TV or live-streaming arrangement can change the starting time for a CIF-SS game. Mater Dei at Mission Viejo, a Division 1 semifinal, moved to a 7 p.m. kickoff when put that game on its live-streaming schedule.

Also at 7 p.m. on Friday: Aquinas vs. Cypress at Western High in Division 9, and Rancho Mirage vs. Katella at Glover Stadium in Division 11.

The Orange County team with the longest road trip in the semifinals is Santa Ana. The Saints play at Big Bear in a Division 12 semifinal Friday. The trip from Santa Ana High to Big Bear High is 104 miles. The elevation difference: Santa Ana is at 115 feet; Big Bear City is at 6,772 feet.

Santa Ana-Big Bear is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. Santa Ana is trying to convince Big Bear to start the game at 3 p.m.

Mater Dei and Mission Viejo are selling tickets for their game in advance. At Mater Dei’s athletics ticket window, ticket sales will be held form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
