July 6, 1931 – July 12, 2017
On July 12, 2017, surrounded by loved ones, Norma Grace Monk Shaw, went to be with her Lord and to join her beloved husband, Kent.
Norma was born on July 6, 1931 to Harold and Lois Monk. She was born at home in Marshville, New York. She joined an older brother, Virgil and was later followed by a younger brother, Clark.
She was educated in New York, graduating from Canajoharie High School in 1947. The family moved to Idaho in early 1947, where her father had taken a position with the US Forest Service in Stanley, Idaho. There she met the love of her life, Preston Kent Shaw, whom she married on September 1, 1950 in Hailey, Idaho. But before they married, she competed and won the Hailey 4th of July Rodeo Queen for 1949/1950.
From this bond, three children were born, Merla, Gail and Mark. During their married life they spent time in Stanley, Hailey, Ketchum, and Las Vegas, Nevada. In the early 1970’s they built a home on Deer Creek Road in Hailey. After Kent and Norma retired, they relocated to Jerome. While they lived on Deer Creek Road, Norma worked for Sun Valley Company, Sun Valley Dry Cleaners and lastly, her most favorite, the liquor store in Ketchum where she was employed for over ten years.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kent, and a grandson, Kevin.
Norma is survived by a brother, Virgil (Ruby) Wendell, a brother Clark (Nancy), Pahrump, Nevada, a daughter Merla Payne (Maurice), Hailey, a daughter, Gail Peterson (Marty), Shoshone, and a son Mark Shaw (Lori), Coeur d’Alene, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way.
