Ranking the top 10 sports events July 17-23 you won’t want to miss:
NO. 1: SOCCER: CONCACAF GOLD CUP SEMIFINAL
Details/TV: At the Rose Bowl, Sunday at 6 p.m., FS1
Team America has managed to survive the group to make it to a quarterfinal match against El Salvador on Wednesday in Philadelphia (6 p.m., FS1), but because of how the tournament is structured, it won’t be making a swing through Pasadena for the next step prior to the July 26 final at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinals in Glendale, Ariz., between Mexico-Honduras (7:30 p.m., FS1) and Jamaica-Canada (4:30 p.m., FS1) will have that honor. The U.S. can move into the semifinals Saturday at Arlington, Tex., against either Costa Rica or Panama (playing in the quarters on Wednesday in Philadelphia at 3 p.m., FS1).
Arenas announced Sunday he has added Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Tim Howard, Jesse Gonzalez and Darlington Nagbe to the roster going forward. “We have added some experienced players to the roster that can help us in the knockout round,” Arena said in a statement. “The players leaving all made a good impression, and I’m optimistic for their future.”

NO. 2: MLB: DODGERS vs. ATLANTA
Details/TV: At Dodger Stadium, Thursday and Friday, 7:10 p.m., Saturday, 6:10 p.m., Sunday, 1:10 p.m., SportsNet LA
Matt Kemp, in his age-32 season and a dozen years of MLB experience now, has managed to hit 253 homers at this point. Had he stayed with the Dodgers instead of getting traded after the 2014 season, he could be challenging Eric Karros’ L.A. franchise record of 270 homers set during his own 12-season run. Kemp makes his first trip back to Dodger Stadium in a Braves’ uniform, and Atlanta comes off a sweep of Arizona last weekend.
