Educational experts advocate exposing students to a wide variety of topics to motivate learning and encourage exploration of potential career options. Massachusetts Mayflower Academy, a full-time online private high school offered through The Virtual High School (VHS Inc.), gives students access to a vast selection of core courses and unique engaging electives to pique their interests as they work toward their high school diploma. Applications for admission for the 2017-18 school year are now available.
Through VHS, Massachusetts Mayflower Academy offers more than 200 courses, including 23 College Board approved Advanced Placement® courses. One of the recent additions is AP® Computer Science Principles, an introductory college-level computer science course designed to appeal to all students in grades 10-12, not just those interested in STEM subjects. The goal of AP® CSP is to promote success across all disciplines in today’s technology-driven society by cultivating logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity in students with diverse backgrounds and interests.
In addition to AP® courses, students have the opportunity to take interesting and unique electives such as Business and Personal Law, Psychology of Crime, and Screenwriting Fundamentals. These courses stimulate students’ interests and expose them to possible career options. Elective courses also include an extensive range of STEM options such as Climate Science, Web Design, Engineering Principles, and Business Math.
