Deputy President William Ruto’s Uasin Gishu home was attacked by an armed man on Saturday, July 29, in Sugoi.
Initial police statements indicated that the lone attacker wielding a machete shot at a General Service Unit officer on duty before making his way into the compound.
According to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the attacker then hid in a building under construction in the compound, prompting a multiagency response that saw highly trained security agents converge to the home.
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that the attack begun at noon but the Deputy President had left his home 30 minutes earlier and his family was not at home.
Police later issued a statement that the siege on the home ended after 18 hours and the attacker was shot dead.
One guard was also killed in the exchange of fire, and another seriously wounded on the hands, legs and chest as DP Ruto took to social media to mourn the death.
On Sunday, July 30, Boinnet held a press conference in the company of Directorate of Criminal Investigations Director Ndegwa Muhoro, where he gave an update on what took place in Sugoi.
