Kevin Staniec creates a cultural hub for Orange County – Orange County Register

In one way Kevin Staniec is an unlikely hero of all things literary in the county.

This bearded, newsboy cap-wearing arts impresario founded 1888 Center, the nonprofit dedicated to promoting literary arts and a sense of cultural heritage in Orange County, which in July materialized from being a website into a bricks-and-mortar reality. “Building community, one story at a time” is the tagline.

Less than six months after opening, the first cultural center of its kind in the county — which boasts a coffee shop, bookstore, art gallery and multi-use performance space — sees more than 200 people a day come through its doors. People come to buy books or read them, take in the art on the walls, or just hang out, talking over a cup of coffee.
