An adorable young cancer patient managed to make a newsreader blush live on air by asking her: “Are you single?”
Erin Cross has been battling leukaemia for the last five years, and appeared on ITV News to discuss winning a national award.
The seven-year-old was a winner in this year’s WellChild Awards, and was presented with her gong by Prince Harry last night.
During her TV appearance the inspirational schoolgirl – who has endured chemotherapy, radiation treatment and a bone marrow transplant – said she had a question for newsreader Lucrezia Millarini.
She said: “I got a question from a friend. Are you single?”
The stunned presenter clearly wasn’t expecting it, and responded: “Erin! I’m blushing.”
The newsreader later released a statement which said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Erin. Her story really is an inspirational one.
“She’s been through so much for someone so young and she’s done it all with a smile on her face and with an amazingly positive attitude. A lesson to us all.
“I knew Erin had a question for me because she told me before we went on air. Needless to say I had no idea it would be this one!
“She’d already mentioned not letting her dad do embarrassing ‘dad dancing’ at last night’s award ceremony and that she’d met Prince Harry ‘more times than his girlfriend’. So I knew she was a bit of a character!
“And yes, I’m not easily embarrassed but this question did make me blush. I didn’t get to answer on air – am I single? No, happily married.”
