Halloween is the time for young ones to get dressed up in their favorite costumes and prepare themselves for a night of fun. But just because Halloween is normally full of scary events, that doesn’t mean there aren’t family-friendly ones designed for all ages. Whether you’re looking to ride some thrilling rides, hear some creepy stories or pick out pumpkins for carving, there are plenty of events for families to attend without the adult-sized scares.

1. Mickey’s Halloween Party

What kid doesn’t want to attend a Halloween party hosted by the one and only Mickey Mouse in the Magic Kingdom? Witness the Ride of the Headless Horseman who leads the Frightfully Fun Parade down Main Street, U.S.A.; enjoy Halloween Screams, the exclusive firework production displayed only during Mickey’s Halloween Party; go trick-or-treating in Disneyland; pose for pictures with your favorite Disney villains, and ride the creepy Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday. It’s a Halloween party for the entire family.

2. Irvine Park Railroad pumpkin patch

If you’re looking to add a little adventure to your family’s Halloween, the Irvine Park Railroad is the place to visit. It offers train rides, hay rides, a haunted house and a hay maze for kids and adults to enjoy. Load up on pumpkins for your front doorstep and enjoy the many activities the pumpkin patch has to offer. On Sept. 23, growers are given prizes for their pumpkins, so you can gather the family, listen to a local band and see some amazing veggies on display. Sept. 16–Oct. 31. Weekdays 10 a.m. to 5p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free, but activity tickets are $5.
