Fires make for poor air quality at San Bernardino-area schools

SAN BERNARDINO >> Recent fires have led some San Bernardino-area schools to report poor air quality affecting their campuses Monday morning.

According to the San Bernardino City Unified School District Office of Safety & Emergency Management, several school sites on the west side of the city reported being affected.

“Several fires burning yesterday, combined with wind direction this morning, are decreasing air quality,” according to the OSEM post. “As wind direction and elevation are contributing factors, not all schools may experience this.”

A fire burning in Redlands and another in Moreno Valley may have contributed to the poor readings in the area, according to authorities.

School officials who experience a decrease in air quality are advised to keep students indoors and limit strenuous activity.
