Democrats claim deal reached over DACA, Trump disagrees

President Donald Trump fired back at congressional Democrats on Thursday morning after Democrats said the two sides agreed Wednesday night to work together on a legislative package to address the status of young unauthorized immigrants.

Democrats claimed the agreement would include protections for the young immigrants called Dreamers and border-security measures, though not funding for a border wall. But press secretary Sarah Sanders immediately disputed that characterization of the discussion as did the president on Thursday morning.

The president tweeted Thursday that no agreement was reached on the Obama-era executive action, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced last week is being rescinded.

Trump made special mention of his proposal to build a border wall with Mexico, one of his signature promises during the election.

He also tweeted that he did not have interest in throwing out “good, educated and accomplished young people.”

The comments coming out of the Democrats’ camp on Wednesday evening were different than the tone Trump struck on Thursday morning.
