Jakob Alamudun scored five of Marina’s seven overtime points as the Vikings defeated Tustin 68-64 in a Tustin Classic second-round game Wednesday at Tustin High.
Marina (9-4) will play Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga (13-1) in a championship semifinal Thursday at 6 p.m. at Tustin.
Alamudun, a 6-foot-4 junior forward, opened the overtime period with a 3-pointer. He added a driving layup to give the Vikings a 67-64 with 32 seconds left. In the final half-minute Marina’s Chase Ishiro made a steal, was fouled and with 15 seconds remaining put in a free throw to make it a four-point game.
Alamudun led Marina with 16 points. Peter Serour added 12 points for the Vikings.
It was a fast-paced game, which Alamudun said was to Marina’s liking.
“We try to get up and down the court as fast as we can,” Alamudun said.
Brian Martinez scored 32 points for Tustin (6-4). Martinez, a 5-9, left-handed senior, scored 18 points including four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Six of Marina’s 13 games have been settled by four points or fewer. Two of those have been overtime games.
“I think it’s good for our guys to play close games early,” Marina coach Nick Racklin said, “because we’re going to have a lot of close ones in the Sunset League.”
Marina plays its Sunset League opener Jan. 5 at Edison, a defending league champion.
